FAQs

HOW CAN YOU HELP ME?

Our Healing Duo Integrative Family Medical Practice physicians provide top-quality natural healthcare for the entire family. We care for patients from newborns to adulthood. Our physicians are trained to handle various conditions, from minor infirmities to major chronic illnesses. Ultimately, our physicians focus on treating the whole person, not just lab results or an afflicted body part. You are a whole person and not merely a medical condition.

Naturopathic Physicians always focus on treating the underlying cause of disease. Standard methods used by NDs include herbal medicine, dietary counseling, nutritional supplementation, manipulative therapy, acupuncture, and counseling. NDs are also trained in pharmacology and drug-herb/supplement interaction. These methods are generally safer and less toxic.

DO YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

We are currently in-network with the following insurance plans: Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Blue Cross, and Blue Shield, United Healthcare (Oxford and Commercial Plans), United Medical Resources (UMR), Multiplan, Optum Health Care Solutions, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, Cigna, ConnetiCare, and CT Husky Health (A, C, D) - State Medicaid.

The naturopathic physicians at Healing Duo Integrative Family Medical Practice are out-of-network providers with all other insurance plans.

Please verify with your insurance company that your specific plan has out-of-network coverage for naturopathic physicians. We encourage all of our patients to establish a range before they visit us.

WHAT IS A NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIAN (ND)?

Simply put, naturopathic physicians (NDs) are experts in natural medicine.

The NDs at Healing Duo Integrative Family Medical Practice are doctors who specialize in natural family medicine. The State of Connecticut licenses them to diagnose and treat all medical conditions. Licensed naturopathic physicians are the only physician-level specialists in natural medicine in the State of Connecticut. We are trained to identify and remove disease causes and treat patients using natural, non-toxic therapies. Our goal is to treat your condition and maximize your health to get you back to doing what you love.

WHY CAN'T I TREAT MYSELF WITH VITAMINS AND HERBS FROM THE HEALTH FOOD STORE?

The abundance of herbal and nutritional supplements available over the counter can be overwhelming. Note well: it may be hazardous to one's health to receive medical advice from any person not appropriately trained.

The naturopathic physicians at Healing Duo Integrative Family Medical Practice have a comprehensive understanding of botanical medicine, nutritional biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, and interactions between natural & drug therapies. Just because something is natural does not mean it is inherently safe. Without specialized training, one cannot safely make recommendations regarding natural medicine.

DO I HAVE TO STOP TAKING MY PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS?

The short answer is No. Many patients see a naturopathic physician because they are concerned about pharmaceuticals' risk, cost, and side effects. In many cases, there are natural therapeutics that can decrease or even replace the need for your prescription medications. Also, naturopathic physicians can often help reduce unwanted side effects using complementary natural therapies. Above all, we want you to reach your health goals safely. We believe an integrated and collaborative approach is ideal when prescription medication is concerned.

ARE NATUROPATHIC TREATMENTS SCIENCE-BASED?

Controlled scientific studies are the basis for the therapies used by many naturopathic physicians. The Healing Duo Integrative Family Medical Practice physicians stay current with medical literature and make every effort to use therapeutics with documented scientific efficacy or a long history of clinical safety and effectiveness.
